Caroline Jardine (CARO) is an artist, muralist, and educator. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Art with a concentration in painting at the University of Toledo in 2017 and a Bachelor of Art Education in 2016.
Jardine was introduced to murals and community art at 16 years old. That year, she began working as an apprentice in the Arts Commission's Young Artists at Work (YAAW) program. She became the first person to work in the YAAW program as an apprentice, senior apprentice, assistant instructor, and instructor. After nine years of working in YAAW, Jardine remains connected to the program through her role as a member of the Arts Commission's Youth Services Committee.
Jardine applied what she learned from studying under professional muralists in YAAW by becoming a muralist herself. Jardine's murals have been displayed in businesses, private residences, schools, and non-profit organizations, including the Main Branch of the Toledo Public Library, Imagination Station, the University of Toledo Student Union, First Tee Lake Erie + Boys and Girls Club, and Toledo Public Schools. She assisted international artists Ouizi and Maya Hayuk on their murals in Downtown Toledo, OH.
In 2016, Jardine was commissioned to create her first spray chalk mural at an Art Loop in Downtown Toledo on St. Clair Street. She has since created numerous interactive spray chalk murals across Ohio. The murals engage the public by inviting them to participate in the nostalgic act of drawing on pavement.
Jardine weaves Ukrainian symbolism into her mixed media pieces to depict themes of connection, history, ancestral traditions, and identity. Her work has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions, including shows at the Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery, River East Gallery, the Toledo Museum of Art Community Gallery, the University of Toledo Center for Visual Arts, Sullivan Hall at the University of Toledo, and the Thomas Porter Gallery.
Jardine works as an art educator in Toledo, OH and maintains a studio practice in Rossford, OH.
